Sustainable design meets beautiful architecture.
For four years, the owners of the five proposed homes have been refining their plans to achieve sustainable design and beautiful architecture. They have worked with award-winning architects, designers, LEED experts, engineers, geologists and biologists to create homes that are appropriate, even complementary, to their surroundings.
Integrated into nature
Each of the homes’ designs is specifically tailored to fit its location, ensuring it minimizes environmental impact while maximizing aesthetics. Important and interesting features of the landscape—such as rock formations, native trees and the curves of the hill—have been incorporated into the design. A single catalyst on each individual property is the inspiration for the stunning, “organic” architecture that is intended to become one with its surroundings. The integrated design of these homes protects public views and sets the bar for minimizing visual impacts.
Green building principles
The owners and their design partners believe strongly that sustainability and architectural excellence can co-exist. Neither has to be compromised. Each of the five homes will adhere to the highest green building design principles. To achieve the goal of minimal lifecycle impact, each home will sit lightly on the land, seek on-site, local, and sustainable building materials, honor the local climatic conditions by reducing water use, and implement passive design techniques to minimize energy use. To achieve these goals, the buildings are designed as an integrated whole linked to their place in the landscape. All aspects of the homes interface with the local conditions to minimize environmental impacts. The result of these green design elements allow each home to commit to a Gold certification under the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) green building rating system. Blended road
The driveway access is a key visual element of the landscape, and it has been carefully sited and designed with organic design principals to blend into the natural contours of the land. The materials used will be from the site, enabling the road to blend as much as feasibily possible into the landscape. The design has benefited from the input of local public safety officials to ensure it meets their needs should there ever be need for emergency response in the area. A third-party study has also been conducted to ensure the safety of the road. Learn more about the project's organic design features.
